What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability?

In the meantime:
- Step 1: Contact the student counsellor of the programme you will enroll and make an appointment with him/her for an intake. Don't know who your student counsellor will be? Consult the student portal Digitap if you are enrolled, if not yet enrolled then contact Studentadvice Point (STAP - stap@ap.be) or ask the international officer (https://www.ap.be/en/international/contact).
- Step 2: It’s required to confirm your disability by adding documentation that confirms your disability (e.g. a document from your doctor, psychiatrist, a document from your higher education institution in your home country stating the reasonable adjustments you used there…).You send the documentation to the student counsellor - see https://www.ap.be/bijzondere-statuten#attesten
- Step 3: During the intake/your appointment the student counsellor will assess the impact of your disability on education activities and examinations. We will discuss reasonable/individual adjustments to compensate for these barriers.
These adjustments can concern education activities during the semester as well as examinations. Reasonable adjustments strive to create a balance between the (dis)abilities of a student, the demands of an education program and the capacity of this program to meet the adjustments. At the end, you request the necessary individual adjustments.
- Step 4: The admission committee decides on your request and informs you.

Adjustments can be made available for students under certain conditions, based on a needs assessment upon arrival at the University.
What adjustments for studies can be made for students?
- May bring a note taker to educational activities
- May bring a personal assistant to educational activities
- May bring a Sign Language interpreter to the educational activities
- May request adjusted courses materials: size, font and font size, braille, etc.
- May request the course material in digital format
- May use a laptop, tablet or iPad during lectures
- May use elevators and other access facilities on campus
